The Aliseo season: When is the best time to visit Fuerteventura?
The prevailing wind in Fuerteventura is the Aliseo. It blows from the north-east and is generated by the Azores High. It is a steady, strong wind that is perfect for kitesurfing as it allows for smooth and predictable riding. April to September: This is the high season. The trade wind stabilises and blows with an 80–90% probability. It is the best time of year for those looking for the guarantee of getting out on the water every day.
From October to March: The wind is influenced by Atlantic weather systems. It is less consistent but often stronger, making it ideal for those looking for waves as well as wind. During this period, our team’s local knowledge is essential for ‘catching’ the right times of day.

The Thermal Effect: If the sky is clear and cloudless, the sand in the dunes heats up, creating a thermal effect that can add 3 to 5 knots to Windguru’s Corralejo forecast.
Gust Direction: Don’t just look at the base wind. The gust direction tells you whether the wind will be ‘clean’ or turbulent.
Wave Period: A long period (over 10 seconds) means choppier water, whilst a short period indicates flatter water, ideal for freestyle or beginners.
