Your First Kitesurfing Lesson in Fuerteventura: What to Expect
Learning to kitesurf is a life-changing experience, but it’s normal to have doubts before you start. “Will it be dangerous? Will I be able to get on the board?” In this guide, we explain how the CKite team structures the first few sessions in Corralejo to take you from being a beginner to riding completely independently.
Stage 1 – Ground control (Beach-Fly & Power Control)
It all starts on the sand. Before heading out into the sea, we need to make sure you have complete control of the kite.
Theory and Safety: You’ll learn how to assess the spot and wind conditions, and how to set up your kit correctly.
The Wind Window: You’ll discover how to fly the kite safely, learning to manage the power and relaunch the kite.
You won’t go in the water until you feel confident on land.

Stage 2 – Your first time in the water (Body-Drag & Water-Start)
It’s time for some adrenaline. At this stage, you’ll feel the pull of the wind for the first time whilst out on the ocean.
Body-Drag: You’ll learn to let the kite pull you upwind and retrieve your board on your own.
The Water Start: This is where technology comes into play. Thanks to our Radio-Training system, you’ll receive real-time guidance from your coach as you attempt your first water starts.
This takes the stress out of it and accelerates your progress incredibly.

Step 3 – Becoming a Self-Employed Rider
The ultimate goal is independence. Once you’ve completed your first glides, we’ll work on:
Navigation and Body Position: How to maintain speed and start tacking (sailing upwind).
Self-Rescue: We’ll teach you self-rescue manoeuvres so you can stay safe and in control in any situation, even when you’re out at sea on your own.
